I arrived home yesterday evening from the annual Life in the Spirit conference. As ever, I found myself both challenged and encouraged. There is however one phrase which seems to have lodged itself in my mind. My close friend Sam Ward, Director of the Eden Network said that ‘the opposite of poverty is community’. This understanding or, dare I say, revelation is in stark contrast to a world in which we live. Where, so often people commit themselves to the accumulation of ‘stuff’ of temporal value, rather than pursuing anything of lasting value. We ought therefore to be reminded that the triune God, who lives in perfect community, created us in His image. Rather than living in isolation, God calls us to live in His community, His church, which in Greek is called the ekklesia, meaning literally ‘the people of God’.
Please be encouraged that this is not only God’s plan for you, but for so many who do not know Him. This is why Jesus said ‘So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.’(Matthew 13:34-35).
Yours and His
