Today is the last full day before we get away for a two week break. As is the case for anyone in this situation, there appears much to do and little time to do it. However, I am thrilled to say that the list that I wrote this morning is now well on the way to being completed. Yet, as I sit down in order to type out a few words for this bulletin, I am reminded of the words that Jesus spoke to his dear friend Martha.
In the 10th Chapter of Luke’s Gospel, Jesus and his disciples arrive unannounced at the home of Lazarus, Martha and Mary in Bethany, just a short walk from Jerusalem. Like a diligent host, Martha throws herself into preparation, whereas Mary simply sits at the feet of Jesus. Although we may think it little wonder that Martha complained about Mary’s action (or indeed lack of it), it is the words of Jesus that stand out most starkly. In answer to her objection, Jesus said; “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Vs: 41-42)
I encourage you. In all the business of life, the demands of family and the pressures of work to ensure that time with The Lord remains at the top of your daily ‘to do list?’ Why? Because there can be no higher priority and most certainly, no greater joy!
Yours in Him
