It strikes me that there are two kinds of people in the world. Those who are ‘morning people’ and those who are not! Now I apologise to you who wear out the snooze buttons on your alarm clocks and turn over longing for a ‘duvet day’, but I love mornings. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, I wake up looking forward. However, this morning was different. For too many reasons, I (maybe like you) woke up feeling groggy and more than a little grumpy!
However, while walking into the office I considered for a moment the nature of God. James, the brother of Jesus says, ‘whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow (James 1:17). Isn’t that wonderful? God never changes. Theologians call this God’s Immutability. In short this means that God doesn’t get up on the wrong side of the bed. Indeed, Psalm 121 tells us that God doesn’t even ‘slumber or sleep’. God is always awake, always alert and His ear is always attentive to our prayer. Furthermore, God doesn’t change because change must be for better or for worse and God is and always will be perfect in His being and His purposes.
Praise God then this week that we worship the one who according to the writer of Hebrews is the same ‘yesterday, today and forever’ (Heb 13:8).
Yours and His, Gareth
