Over the years, I have spent many hours with people who are facing a variety of difficult situations. Whatever their challenge. Whether it be bereavement, unemployment, sickness or strained relationships, I seek to encourage them, not to be ‘robbed’ of their joy in Jesus.
In the scriptures we often read about the sovereignty of God. That is, nothing happens in any place or at any time that God does not either purpose or permit and will somehow use for His glory. Indeed, we often quote the Apostle Paul who wrote to the church in Rome, saying ‘And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them’ (Romans 8:29). If this is true, I believe that we can therefore take the idea of not being ‘robbed’ a step further. So, whatever challenge you are facing, ask that God would use it for your good and His glory.
Pray therefore that the challenge you face would lead you closer too and not further from God. Ask God to lead you into a closer relationship with Him as you seek Him through His word. Cultivate an awareness of His Holy Spirit and learn to live according to His guidance. Pray that God would expose wrong attitudes, underlying fears and insecurities in your life, in order that you be lead into righteousness and a deeper security in Himself. And lastly, ‘Trust in The Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take’ (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Yours and His, Gareth
