Staggering! Sun 19th May 18

On Friday, Ted opened the 7.00 am prayer meeting by reading, what I believe to be one of the most extraordinary verses in the whole of Scripture. John opens his Gospel by introducing to us, The Word. At the time of writing, The Word was debated by philosophers and religious leaders alike. For some, The Word was a spiritual concept, for others a life force. Yet wonderfully, John proclaims to us, ‘So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son’. (John 1:14)
Isn’t that amazing? That through the person of the Lord Jesus Christ, God made Himself known to us. That having been laid in a feeding trough, Jesus spent time as a refugee before being apprenticed by his step-dad as a carpenter in the Northern town of Nazareth. Although it is vital to remember all that Jesus said and did in his three years of public ministry, in light of John’s statement it is equally important to remember that John’s best friend was the pre-existent God and the means of all creation. To me that seems to highlight the glory and wonder of the incarnation and reveals the heart and the grace of God towards us.
Rejoice then this week that God’s will and purpose is still to befriend both you and I in the person of His Son, Jesus.
Yours and His, Gareth
