After years of looking and longing (and possibly a little coveting), I have finally bought myself a road bike. After removing the bike from its box and attaching the seat, wheels and handlebars it only seemed sensible to give it a spin. So to my family’s disgust, I donned my lycra and hit the road! Within a couple of hundred metres the difference over my hybrid bike was obvious. Without the reinforced frame, mud-guards, shock absorbers and various paraphernalia this one flew.
I am reminded that after listing numerous heroes of faith, the Writer to the Hebrews says;
”Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” (Hebrews 12:1).
Their point is simply this; without due baggage we travel lighter, faster and therefore go further.
It’s obvious really, isn’t it?
