A firm-Foundation Sunday 11th Feb 18

There are numerous Biblical characters who experienced incredible highs and startling lows. Yet, I suspect few if any experienced the extremes that David knew. We first meet David as a shepherd boy who wrote songs of praise while tending sheep on the hills above Bethlehem. However, within a matter of months, David was anointed to be the future king before being thrust into public prominence as a hero. As his story continues we see David pursued and hunted like an animal by the incumbent monarch, before he himself assumed the throne. Sadly, after reigning over Israel and Judah for a number of years, David loses sight of his moral compass and watches on as his family betray him and his kingdom crumbles around him.

However, as we read the story and indeed listen to his songs we all have much to learn from this amazing man. In Psalm 62 verses 1-2, David writes; I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation my fortress where I will never be shaken.

This week I would encourage you to take the time to reflect upon these incredible truths. Therefore, as you experience the roller-coaster of life, you like David will discover God to be the source of your victory, the firm-foundation on which you stand, and the place in which you find joy and security in times of trouble.

Be blessed! Yours and His, Gareth
