For generations, believers have found hope and comfort in the Psalms. As they have struggled with grief, wrestled with uncertainty or even feared for their futures, they have turned to the songbook of the Bible. Within these pages they have read as others have bared their souls before God.
Being aware that there are many in the church who are struggling, I want to encourage you to be nothing less than honest with God. Why? Because it is only as you express your grief that you will discover his comfort. It is only when you communicate your need that you will receive his supply. It is only when you face your weakness that he will give to you his strength. Let me therefore encourage you with some wonderful words from Psalm 46:
God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.
Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! (Verses 1-3)
Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honoured by every nation. I will be honoured throughout the world.
The LORD of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. (Verses 10-11)
Yours and His,
